That Summer

This image is layered, surrealist, photographic collage.

A young blonde white woman’s close-up face is framed by a square of bright, sky blue around the entire image, showing impressions of waves in the frame. The woman is wearing large round sunglasses, one lens is missing, through which the viewer is able to see her bright blue eye, tinted the same colour as the surrounding frame. The other lens is completely opaque, showing a vibrant goldfish floating amongst bubbles. At the bottom of the frame, swimming out and towards the viewer, it’s tale on the outside of the framed image, a second goldfish looks up at the viewer imploringly. The woman’s expression is stoic. The image is bright, lively, and brings to mind images of beaches of tropical cocktails. The woman’s expression juxtaposes against this brightness.
