Summer Time

(This is an illustration series, in the form of a comic strip. The style is minimal and clean, with black, white and pink as the primary tones. The panels are not specifically define, rather they are implied by the spacing of the captions and the small illustrations held within each implied space.)

First Panel

A woman (the speaker) sits, staring off into space. She is wearing a t-shirt and jeans. Her hair is in a ponytail. The background is pink. She is entirely black and white. There is no distinct scene behind her. The caption is above the image.

Caption: You sit there and say:
Speech bubble: “Where has this summer gone??”

Second Panel

Two small images: the speaker leans against a window sill staring out at a pink exterior. A carton of sorbet with a spoon dug into it, hovering just above the protagonist. It says “sorbet” on the side”. The caption is above the image.

Caption: so I think about my open bedroom window and the smell of rain and ice cream for dinner

Third Panel

Pink shoes and ankles of the speaker, close and from behind on a black and white road. The caption is above the image, except for the last line, which is below.

Caption: My body got used to running on summer time and now every day is gonna get shorter, faster. I’m trying to keep up.

Fourth Panel

Zoom out of the ankles and shoes to see the speaker in running gear standing in the middle of a road. The speaker and the road are now black and white, while the grass on either side is pink.

Caption: It’s dark when I walk home.

Fifth Panel

Pink body of the speaker hugging their arms to their body. The image is cut off at their chin, and then just before the elbow. It shows primarily their hair and arms.

Caption: I only just noticed how long my hair got. How mismatched my body parts look in the shower.

Sixth Panel

Pink body of the speaker pulling on white top. They are already wearing white underwear. The image is cut off at the shoulders and again just above the hips. Shows again mostly the arms.

Caption: Where is this summer going?

Seventh Panel

Pink body of the speaker has successfully pulled the white shirt over their head and is adjusting it at the hips.

Caption: I’m trying to keep up.

Eighth Panel

Pink body of the speaker now begins to to pull on white shorts. We see them from behind, looking down at the shorts - considering them.

Caption: Sometimes I think I’m just too slow.

Ninth Panel

Pink body of the speaker has successfully pulled on the white shorts. The image is cut off just above the elbow and just before the bottom of the shorts.

Caption: I’m trying to keep up.

Tenth Panel

Pink body of the speaker stands facing the viewer, hands in pockets. The image is cut off just above the knees and just before the elbows.

Caption: I’m turning my pockets inside out to make room for more change.
